High parking charges, the congestion charge, high traffic density and not enough parking spaces – London drivers don't usually have much to smile about. This is why smart chose the city of London for its pilot project. Since the end of 2007 100 first generation smart fortwo electric drives have been driving on inner city roads where they are used as fleet vehicles by London companies and public institutions.
Advantages in city traffic.
The investment is worth it for the test drivers as the smart fortwo electric drive not only exempts them from congestion and parking charges – they do not have to pay motor vehicle tax either. The smart fortwo electric drive is environmentally compatible, too, as it does not produce any emissions and the test drivers in London use "green" electricity to charge the integrated battery.
smart is gathering experience with every kilometre driven and testing the smart fortwo electric drive's suitability for everyday use.
